Tulip bloom in Holland: where and when to see it

Tulips are the true star of the Dutch spring. Every year millions and millions of flowering bulbs color the meadows of Holland and the Keukenhof park. Keukenhof is a botanical park about 30 kilometers from Amsterdam, where 8 million bulbs are planted every year, creating a unique spectacle when in bloom.

When do tulips bloom in Holland?

The best time to see tulips in the Netherlands is between March and May, but the greatest explosion of color and fragrance occurs in April. At the 32-hectare Keukenhof park, more than 800 varieties of tulips bloom alongside hyacinths, daffodils and many other colorful bulbs. The combination of flowers of different types and shades creates beautiful patterns and plays of color.
Walking through the park you can get a taste of how good the Dutch growers are, and discover the different types of tulips, which can be very different indeed. It is such an impressive sight that Keukenhof is considered one of the best spring parks in the world. About 1 million people from all over the world visit the Keukenhof park during the eight weeks it is open.

Where to see tulips in the Netherlands

Keukenhof is the largest flower park in the world, a place where you can enjoy the magic of the scents and colors of some 7 million tulips, hyacinths and daffodils.
Each year a part of the park is dedicated to a theme, creating a real picture, a mosaic of flowers. Recent themes include Van Gogh in 2015, Flower Power and the iconic 1960s and 1970s in 2019 and Flower Classic in 2022.

The park is also an ideal destination for those traveling with children, with activities and exhibits for young children throughout the opening period.

In 2025, Keukenhof will open its doors on 20 March 20 and close them on May 11. Tickets can be booked on the park’s official website, and you can admire the endless acres of blooming tulips every day from 8 am to 7 pm.

The Aalsmeer Flower Auction

An incredible place for flower lovers. The Aalsmeer Flower Auction is a huge building where flowers from all over the world are traded every day: about 43 million flowers are sold every day! About 20 million flowers and 2 million pot plants are bought and sold every day. In addition to the classic tulip, Holland’s national flower, you can find exotic flowers from all over the world, from carnations to orchids. One special feature of this auction? It starts with the highest price and then goes down!
